- Unleash The GOD In You
"Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have revived, freely give." (Matthew 10:8)
As we begin, I want you to know that this will be the longest devotional you might ever read but it will be worth it, I promise. With that, let's go on.
In our theme scripture, Jesus tells us to do four things. And here are four things I need you to know before we proceed.
He'd never have told us to do these things if we couldn't or didn't have it in us to.
This came right after He had given His disciples power. Note, this is figurative; at least to us because unlike Peter and co. who had to wait till Jesus died to receive His Holy Spirit, we received Him the day we got born again, and His power as He came upon us.
He didn't set any conditions to this other than us believing.
He carefully ordered this list of tasks according to difficulty.
Don't worry, all this will make sense as we go on.
First, He tells us to heal the sick. Sickness could be malaria, cancer, mental or whatever. So, He's saying we can literally heal sick people. He knows because He gave us power to (Mark 16:17-18, Luke 10:19), and expects us to be bold enough to declare the end of all sickness when we encounter it in our lives or loved ones. Or even strangers, knowing that whatever we say in His Name will be done (John 14:14).
Second, He tells us to cleanse the lepers. This time He was specific. Leprosy is a disease. Lepers are also sick, but this is different because most times even the healer is afraid to approach he whom must be healed. In Jesus's day, priests were often scared to do this, but Jesus never was. So, there's first a fear to conquer, and then the actual cleansing.
Yet He says we can speak words which shall cleanse lepers like water washes a muddy item. And He did this often in scripture. He even went to eat in one's house (Matthew 26:1-6). Note, the Bible called him Simon the leper, not Simon who was a leper. No one really knows what his condition was at that time, just that Jesus was in his home as well as others, perhaps because they knew Jesus definitely would have healed the man.
So here's the question, why wasn't He more cautious or afraid?
Because He knew just as you should that you can command the spirit or whatever behind it to dissipate and it will obey. You only have to truly believe that it's in your right to do so and see the result desired.
Next, He tells us to raise the dead. Be it a dead organ or an entire system, we can push life back into it. Scripture says the Lord gives life and takes it away (1 Sam 2:6); and it also says greater things shall we do (John 14:12); for as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). Thus, we can call dead situations, a dying organ, or even a whole fellow back to life and vitality. I need you to believe this. We just have to declare it, for in Him (and by extension, us) is life and it is the light of men (John 1:4), taking each of their dark moments.
Lastly, He tells us to cast out devils. Why was this "tagged" the most difficult?
First, this involves taking a whole entity out of another entity's soul without endangering the oppressed such that it is restored to peace and liberty. In other words, this involves the recovery and restoration of life.
But more importantly, prior to these words, no man had done it. No one in the Old Testament completely casted demons out of a man. Some raised the dead, but none did this. Why? Because after Adam sinned, man became a slave and offspring of the devil by virtue of Adam losing his Sonship. Little wonder why no one called God Father till Jesus came. Thus, man could never exercise authority over Satan as no slave can over his master. But Jesus embodied the original divine nature of the first man. So when He died, unlike the first Adam who passed bondage to mankind, He passed His Godly identity and Sonship down to us. Therefore, the one thing we lacked that made the authority God gave man via Noah obsolete as it concerned the devil had been restored , placing us high in heavenly places above Satan and all his cohorts (Ephesians 2:6). Now when we declare, Satan flees.
Hence know this, you can destroy every demonic hold upon your life, family and loved ones. Do you know what this means? It means you're not just a man, or woman anymore, you are like God. In fact, you are Him, nature-wise. Same way a lion births a lion, God has birthed you a god. In Psalm 82, He says you are (v.6). However, in verse 7, He tells us we might live out our days in ordinariness if we don't understand this (v. 5).
Understand what? That one can be in honour but die as a nothing if he doesn't understand and act like who he or she is (Psalm 49:20). Like I always say, the devil is not scared of what he knows about you, he's scared of what you know about yourself. That's why he stayed away from Jesus for a long while after the temptation because he realized He knew. If you do not know, he will ride in your glory and ensure you walk in his as a slave. But thank God because even if you never knew before, now you do. Therefore, exercise what you now know. Exercise your Sonship.
P.S: know this; freely you have received, give the same to others. The knowledge, the healing, give as you've received. I can't reach everyone even if there was a million "mes". But you can reach someone with this, so do that. Share what you know, but most importantly share this gift that is yours.
