Live As You Were Called

DAILY VITAMIN

- Live As You Were Called

"But ye are a chosen generation, royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out darkness into his marvelous light." (1 Peter 2:9)

Our theme scripture refers to every born again individual as a holy person. As such there is a certain kind of life expected of us as believers. There are things we can't and shouldn't do anymore.

You see, Christ didn't come to make us not guilty despite the things we do. No. He came to proclaim us not guilty and so that we might never do these things again. That's why you will always hear me say, we can't do the things sinners do and not expect to end up where sinners end up. The difference between the born again person and the sinner is where they stand. Sinners stand in the light, sinners in the dark. If you find yourself living still in the dark, then you're not really born again.

Paul agrees with me. He said a man who does these evil things have no place in God and shouldn't be deceived by some preachers who say they won't be judged for doing the same things God punishes the children of disobedience (Ephesians 5:5-6). Then in v. 7, he said "Be not yet therefore partakers with them."

There is identity you bear. It is one that can and should not be associated with sin. One that's repulsive to the old ways. You can't be in Christ and live as everything that's opposite to Him. "For ye were sometimes darkness," in the past that was you. You could do these things because you were flesh-dominated, law-condemned, "but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light...and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness." (Ephesians 5:8-11).

It has to show. These fruits of righteousness. Fruits are visible for all to see. In the same way, the way you live should visibly reflect your position as lights. As being no longer darkness. Your light is meant to shine bright enough for others to admire the Lord through you. So remember, you are a priesthood. An institution of righteousness, a holy people. And you must now live as one who understands that he/she has been called out of darkness and into His everlasting and marvelous light.
