- Staying Guaranteed of Rewards (1)

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." (1 Corinthians 15:58)

There is a way that guarantees you of rewards with God. If there weren't, the Father wouldn't have said of Christ "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased with". There was a reason Jesus so pleased the Father, and that reason was in His quality of service; which is also the simplest way to set yourself up for rewards (see John 12:26).

Moreover, God is always eager to reward His people. But as seen in scripture, there are certain things required of us to ensure such rewards never elude us. In a single chapter of the Book of Proverbs Solomon shows us how. And in this two-part devotion, we'll be looking at what they are.

1. Honour God's Word: "My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandment: for length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee." (Proverbs 3:1-2).

As many as live a life aligned to the Word of God shall enjoy long life and peace. Peter describes this experience better by terming it the reception of all things that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4). That is, such a person will not only grow in spirit but in his all-round living as well. Which is a clear fulfilment of John's words in 3 John 2.

How does this work?

The Word will serve as strength when weak and as a conduit to hidden opportunities when things seem bleak. Because no one who dwells in God and God in them via the Word can ever live as a destitute, rather such a person is guaranteed a glorious destiny shaped in the Word.

2. Embrace Mercy and Uphold Truth: The scripture says the merciful shall always obtain mercy (Matthew 5:5) and then also tells us to never sell the truth (Proverb 23:23). Why? Because these two virtue open doors of favour to a man; both from God and men (Proverbs 3:3-4). In other words, to stay connected to the pipeline of rewards, have a heart filled with compassion towards others and stand for the truth at all times. If you can make this your lifestyle, you'd have scored a place in God's heart, and in most cases men too
