Ask Anything
DAILY VITAMIN
- Ask Anything
"If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." (John 14:14)
As kids, weeks before our birthdays we are asked what we would love to have the most, and oftentimes than not we did get them. Even now as adults we still get asked. For instance, today's my birthday and if I didn't always do enough to hide that information from a lot of people including familiars I'd still get asked right now. But here's the thing: such gracious offers of asking in order to receive certain gifts only happen on certain occasions, humanly speaking; however with God it's a plain cheque.
Jesus instructed us to ask if we've never asked anything of Him and assures us that when we do our joy will be complete (John 16:22-24). Meaning He won't disappoint us. Rather He will answer us, and speedily so long as it's not against His ways.
For example, you can't ask God for your neighbor's wife. That'd be stupid when God Himself declared that no one should put asunder between married couples. So as long as such a request is aligned to His Word and will, it will be yours. James confirmed this when he wrote that we have not because we ask not and when we do not have despite asking it's because we've asked amiss (James 4:2-3).
Now, this doesn't mean that sometimes you wouldn't have to wait to receive certain things from God. You will, as a test of faith that all men must go through, though some tougher than others, but we all encounter such a time. As with Paul to whom God repeatedly told to stay strong rather than immediately solving his problem (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). Nevertheless, even at this He will still answer and redeem us. I implore you to get a copy of my book "When God's Time Starts To Seem Not Like The Best" for further understanding of this subject.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that God will answer your requests if you'd only ask. Of course, He knows what you want even before you ask (Isaiah 65:24) but do you? That's why we ask, to prove that we do, to insist that it's necessary. You see, most times God won't move till we move, and we move because we have faith that what we want is possible and that He can have it done. And just as in the same way the devil isn't scared of what he knows about you but what you know about yourself, God is also not moved by what He knows you need, but by what you know you need and boldly approach Him to receive.
I'll end with Isaiah's words: plead your case so you shall be justified (Isaiah 43:26). It doesn't matter what the circumstances are, still plead your case. Ask what you want Him to do for you.
Hence, do just that, ask.
