When Things Get Hard

DAILY VITAMIN

- When Things Get Hard

"Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider thy ways." (Haggai 1:5)

In response to Solomon's prayers, God showed us that when things get hard, there's only one thing we can do to revert it. He talks about these uncontrollable factors beyond our ability to effect any desired change, such that we'd even think God was fighting against us; and to that He tells us what we must do is humble ourselves enough to seek His face and do what pleases Him (2 Chronicles 7:13-14).

Most times, life responds to us according to the things we fail to do and not even the things we do. Things we leave out. And there are certain things required of us. Especially when we feel blessed. One of which is to share so that others may also see the glory of God. In our theme scripture, we are advised that when things seem to stay static despite the efforts we put in to move forward, or when we never have enough to feed our home in spite of how hard we work, or how valueless our monies appear sometimes as against our needs after we get paid, in this we must focus on building God's house. Forget about your problems and build His house. But here's the tricky part; Haggai wrote that under the Old Covenant when God presumably lived in houses of stone, but now He dwells in our hearts, making us the temples of God. Hence, what am I saying? Go out and help someone. It doesn't have to be only about money, just contribute something in their lives that make them more efficient for the Lord and watch how your own impediment disappears.

Consider the miracle borne from the exchange  between the widow and Elijah. Her last meal became only her last for the night, because by morning she was never going to be broke again. Take some time to focus on helping other people. Overthinking about your own issues won't make it go away, and neither will ignoring nor denying it, but if you'd take a bit of that energy to ensure that God's plan in someone's life happens as designed, you'd be forcing all the powers of heaven to speak to your situation. Remember what Jesus told us and it is the greatest secret to attaining your feet again in times of trouble: Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy (Matthew 5:6).

So when things get hard, help make others' paths soft and yours will be again.
