Spare A Penny

DAILY VITAMIN

- Spare A Penny

"Every man according as he purposed in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Two truths are certain in life:

1. Not everyone will be rich.

2. Regardless of how bad your present state may be, there are those who are in much more far worse.

So, in other words, there will always be poor people in this world, or in some cases poorer people. Jesus assured us of that; and your testimonies are actually someone else's prayer requests.

For this reason, we are told that God blesses us with some level of wealth for two things: to enjoy, and also to help others (1 Timothy 6:17-18). Paul describes it better in his letter to the church in Corinth. "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always have all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work...For the administration of this service not only supplies the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings to God." (2 Corinthians 9:8-12).

Did you see that? To supply wants. Wants of close relatives, friends, fellow believers and even strangers. This is important because giving is how best we express our godliness. God Himself is the greatest giver of all. I'm not talking about just money; but also time, attention etc. And God expects us to do just that. He gave the greatest gift ever in Christ, and now looks out to see us give as much as we can to help the little guy. It might be as low as the widow's mite, but if it will bring joy to someone's life, reminding them that God still cares for them, then it is enough. The intention is just as important as the action itself.

So what am I asking you to do? Bring a little joy to someone's life. Buy someone lunch, or a little cake for their birthday. Give the homeless kid a dollar or just spend time visiting the sick. This may cost you a lot or nothing at all; but if it will make God proud and men blessed, it'd be worth it.
