Walk In The Light

DAILY VITAMIN

- Walk In The Light

“Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying. I am the Light of the world: he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

The day we became born again, we took up a new way of life. We adopted a new culture, a new origin, a new nationality. We stopped being American, Nigerian, Russian, German, Belizean etc. At least as it pertains to the spirit, and became children of God; residents of the Kingdom. In other words, we stopped being of this world; though in this world, our lifestyle and disposition drastically cease to be influenced by it. Little wonder we are told not to be conformed to the ways of this world, but to be transformed by the precepts of God’s Word (Rom 12:1). Because we are not from down here.

In our theme verse, it is said we have the light of life in us. Many live in gross darkness as Isaiah prophesied, but we are of those who have arisen through the light of Christ and therefore must shine (Isaiah 60:1-3). And this is possible because in God we are reflections of Christ now. 1 John 4:17 say as Jesus is (even in His glory), so are we in this world.

Hence, if we are Christ on earth today, the question then becomes why do we live in sin? The answer to that is because we don’t yet realize what we are. Only an eagle who thinks it’s a guinea fowl treads the earth and never flies. We are not of the darkness, so we shouldn’t live in darkness. We are lights, we shine (Matt 5:14-16). We shine for others to give glory to God and through it return back to Him in repentance in their multitudes (Zechariah 8:20-23).

But to achieve this, we all have to be disciplined enough to walk in the light. For you were sometimes darkness, but now are you light in the Lord: walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8).
