- How To Overcome Anxiety

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank Him for His answers.” (Philippians 4:6 TLB)

Being anxious can sometimes be an inevitable thing as humans; if it wasn’t God wouldn’t teach us how to evade it.

Anxiety is a momentary impulse that fills your very being with a state of fright and a belief of being bound to fail or disappointed. And it happens to even the best of us. However, we can win over the urge to be anxious. In our theme scripture, God teaches us how. We are told that when we begin to feel this feeling of insecurity, we must give ourselves to prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.

Unlike what many our motivational teachers proffer, words of affirmation don’t come first—at least not scripturally, prayer does. As we begin to plunge our being with word of God as we pray, our spirit gets revitalized, casting off the shadows of fear from our soul. And then we give thanks for what God has and can still do. As we do this, we are assured that an unusual peace starts to wrap our mind wholesomely. Then once this is done, we continue by fixing our minds on positive things; words of affirmation—specifically all the Word says about us in Christ (v. 7-8). In no time, the anxiety fades away.

You see, anxiety is like the rain; it doesn’t last forever. And if you’ll just keep your umbrella up, you’ll come out victorious all the time. The book of Psalms is a story of various men’s victory over anxiety. Take David for instance. Whenever the enemy neared, or things began to fall apart, he prayed then thanked, then boasted in the Lord. That’s the sequence, and it was his pattern at all times. Nehemiah also did the same when he was building the wall again; prayed, thanked, and boasted in the Lord. And he never for once let what was happening around him stop him from doing what God called him to. So also, do the same. When the lice of anxiety rises and says you’re not good enough, don’t stop writing that proposal, or that song, or applying for that position, simply pray, thank and boast in the Lord, and you’d watch it vanish before your eyes while you ascend into new levels .
