- Understanding The Mercies of God

"Praise the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever." (Psalm 136:1)

God is merciful; and the great part is that He wants to show you mercy. The Bible says His desire to show mercy increases daily. Lamentations 3:22-23 says "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, ... for his compassions never fail. ... They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (NIV). 

He renews it every moment. 

Despite this, a lot of people don't receive a touch of mercy because they don't believe He yearns to show them mercy. And they think this way due to the misconception that God is an angry God who loves to punish people, basing this premise on the Old Testament. But the facet of God we see most times in the Old Testament was due to the characters of men in those periods. Even Jesus said God gave them laws according to what He saw in their hearts.

In Mark 10:5, Jesus said "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,' Jesus replied." (NIV). And in verse 6, He tells us it certainly isn't God's perfect way. And that was why God came in the image of men--to show us His perfect way. So, everything we see Jesus do, every way we see Jesus live, that is God's way of doing and living.

One of the foremost was His urgency and desire to show mercy. He showed compassion effortlessly, and that's exactly how God feels toward us. Luke 13:34 says "...how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing." (NIV).

Another thing Jesus did was that He sought out men to help (Acts 10:38). God's nature is to do exactly the same, and He wants to with you, even today if you'd just trust Him. 

"Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart." (Psalm 36:5-10 NIV)
