Plant Seeds of Devotion

- Plant Seeds of Devotion

"In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good." (Eccl 11:6)

The Bible admonishes us to keep sowing seeds, but what is this seed we are meant to sow? Actions; for if we keep doing what we are meant to do, we will surely get what we are meant to get. And in the sight of God, the number one seed to sow is devotion.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says "Here is my final conclusion: fear God and obey his commandments, for this is the entire duty of man. For God will judge us for everything we do, including every hidden thing, good or bad." (TLB). He calls it our primary duty in life, and that every judgment starts from this and our compliance to it.

Devotion can be displayed in many facets; you can show it by investing your time, energy, money, passion in the agenda of God, and He says for this such a man will never go unrewarded. Hebrews 6:10 says "For God is not unfair. How can he forget your hard work for him, or forget the way you used to show your love for him—and still do—by helping his children?" (TLB). Take David for example; God said his heart was sold out to Him, and as a result God kept nothing from Him. The same can be said of Joseph and even our Lord Jesus (see John 8:29), and it won't be different for you.

Ecclesiastes 11:3-5 assures us of that. It surely pays, and when it does, it pays in unimaginable folds. "When the clouds are heavy, the rains come down; when a tree falls, whether south or north, the die is cast, for there it lies. If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done. God’s ways are as mysterious as the pathway of the wind and as the manner in which a human spirit is infused into the little body of a baby while it is yet in its mother’s womb." (TLB)

Hence, don't let your present conditions cheat you out of this blessing. Our momentary experiences aren't always the best marker for God's intention toward us; but if we will stay in faith and trust Him, completely devoting all of our life to Him, you will see the difference at the end; for surely He always makes a difference between the devoted and the undevoted (Malachi 3:18).

Consider Solomon: "And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar" (1 Kings 3:3-4). Now notice how the LORD responded: "And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days." (v. 11-14)
