DAILY VITAMIN

- Your Giving Is Your Greatest Investment

"Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be." (Eccl 11:1-3)

What you give is never lost, it is kept in store for your days of need. That's what the theme scripture tells us. What you give is a seed. A seed when planted doesn't produce instantly, but when it does it yields multiple folds of what was given.

Luke 6:38 says "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (NIV). So, it is always a good measure that shall be received. According to the heart with which you have given, it shall be returned unto you.

In the parable of the shrewd manager, we see the efficiency of giving. He was on the verge of getting sacked, and being scared of what may befall him when he has lost his job, he gave discounts to all of his customers, knowing that for such a favour, they will be favourable to him when the time comes; and for such wisdom alone his master retained him (Luke 16:1-10). Now why did the master do that? Because he realized that they being favourable to his manager would eventually mean being favourable to him. He understood the power of what his manager had done, and it was his greatest investment thus far.

Consider biblical examples of those who gave and received in abundance. The Sidonian woman who gave Elijah and received a time times fold of what she gave. Solomon who gave richly to God and became the richest king ever to have lived. All of these people gave with a whole heart and as a reward God blessed them bodily, spiritually and intellectually.

So giving is never in vain. It rewards abundantly. It increases though it seems as though you are scattering (Proverbs 11:24), and in measures beyond what was materially given. Why? Because no seed produces just one fruit; it produces one tree that yields fruits in abundance.

Also, remember the scripture says "Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed" (proverbs 19:17 ESV). And since God never owes, He pays up in measures pressed down and shaken together to make room for as much as you can accommodate. Hence, don't despise this great mystery; rather indulge it, and in it you will find abundance as never before.
