Control Your Words

DAILY VITAMIN

- Control Your Words

"Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be" (James 3:10)

The scripture says it is absurd for a tree to bear two different kinds of fruit, or for a fountain to bring forth two different kinds of water (v. 11-12). It is a great absurdity indeed, and God says that so is a believer who lives with the dispositions of those yet in darkness.

The Book of Luke says that we are identified by our fruits regardless of what tree we are meant to be; and that's how God judges us- how we live as against how we are supposed to live. It says "A good man out of the good treasures of his heart brings forth that which is good... For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45). This is how we prove our identity in Christ to those watching us. If truly we are His, then we must act like Him, think like Him, and thus speak like Him. Remember, "But now being made free from sin, and become servants of God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life" (Romans 6:22). Yes, holy in everything, including our words; for He says by them we shall be justified or condemned (Matthew 12:37)

Our hearts have been transformed to His, and so our words must be like His, as our actions should too. In other words, our words reflect the contents of our hearts; and if our hearts be one with His, then our words must as well. And He says "Bless those who curse you" (Luke 6:28). Thus, we must react not based on how people treat us, but based on whom we are in Christ - good; loving even those who despitefully use us, and we are told by John that this must be both in words and in deeds (1 John 3:18).

Therefore speak words of grace alone; words seasoned with the aura of His person, hence revealing His love and nature to all around us. This is what Christianity entails.

Prayer:

My tongue is sanctified by the Spirit. It speaks only of things that are excellent and of praise. It is a spring of living water, ministering grace to all who hears me. It has the touch of the Father, and thus ministers light at all times. The words I speak are filled with the life of God, because He dwells in my heart, all I utter carry His aura. This I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
