God Is Fighting For You
DAILY VITAMIN
- God Is Fighting For You
"God is jealous over those he loves; that is why he takes vengeance on those who hurt them. He furiously destroys their enemies." (Nahum 1:2 TLB)
God is always on ground to fight for you, and according to our theme scripture it doesn't look too good for the enemy. Moses said to the people of God "The LORD shall fight for you and you shall hold your peace" (Exodus 14:14); and that's still exactly what He will do for you.
Consider verse 3; it says God is slow in getting angry, but when aroused, his power is incredible; and he does not easily forgive... Doesn't that contradict what the entire Bible tells us about God as being full of mercy, slow to anger and quick to forgive (see Micah 7:18, Psalm 136)? Well, guess what, it doesn't at all. You see, in that verse, God was referring to His actions towards the enemy in warfare against you. And verses 7 and 8 confirms it.
It says "The Lord is good. When trouble comes, he is the place to go! And he knows everyone who trusts in him! But he sweeps away his enemies with an overwhelming flood; he pursues them all night long" (TLB). And as a result, "Affliction will not arise the second time" (v. 9).
In this story, Assyria was the enemy breathing hard against the people of God, and God punished them severely for it. Little wonder the prophet asked the enemy never to rejoice, because soon he shall be above again (Micah 7:8). Thus, God will fight for you unto victory. Therefore never assume you're alone; you are not. He is with you to help you. And don't worry; He has never failed and He won't start with you. And just so you know, the enemy can't get you off guard as long as you stick with the Lord, walking as He leads. He says He will be with us every step of the way - even in the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4).
So, you can rest easy; praising the LORD for this wonderful grace He's given you. And He promises that even though they increase in millions, He will still cause them to vanish before you (v. 12). Hence, let's do what Nahum recommended: "...proclaim a day of Thanksgiving, and worship only the Lord.... " (v. 15 TLB).
Prayer:
Father, I worship you because you never let me slip away from your watchful eyes. I thank you because you keep me safe from all the attacks of the enemy. Despite all his severities, you bring me forth in victory. When he comes in to plague me, like a flood you sweep him away, granting me priceless rest and peace in your presence. For these and more, I say thank you, in Jesus Name. Amen.
