Knowing The Holy Spirit (1)

- Knowing The Holy Spirit (1)

“For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offering.” (Hosea 6:6)

Everything we know about God is a direct result of the Spirit’s influence upon us. I’m not talking about head knowledge, I’m referring to real intimate knowledge. The scripture says “But ye have received the unction of the Holy One, and ye know all things” (1 John 2:20). Verse 27 goes on to tell us that even things we weren’t thought shall be known because of Him. The same thing Jesus said He would do. John 16:13 says He shall teach us all things and guide us into all truth.

Now, in the same way, everything we know about ourselves in Christ was revealed by Him. 1 Corinthians 2:12 says that we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit of God that we might know the things that have been freely given to us. So, our identity is a truth only the Spirit can reveal, because He gives us that identity in Christ (Ephesians 1:13). But even more than this, He wants us to grow in His knowledge and fellowship.

You see, the Father is the glory of the Godhead in the same proportion as the Son is and as the Spirit is too. He is one Lord. But it is the Holy Spirit that reveals this glory. He does it in us and through us and around us as God’s executive representative now on the earth. As a person, He can be known, and wants to be. And there’s nothing more God desires than that; because the more we know Him, the more we know Jesus (John 15:26), and the more the Father is glorified.

He wants a lifelong relationship until you infinitely know Him better than ever. So, how can you learn to know Him more? Fellowship. He already lives in you now that you are born again, you only need to consciously walk in communion with Him. You might not see His face as you see mine, but you can feel and know His person just as much as you can know mine.

Thus, talk with Him; God knows He wants you to. Indulge yourself in pursuit of the knowledge of His person through the Word and fellowship in His presence; for beyond everything else He wants you to know Him.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, I thank you for being in and with me forever. I want to know you: and lead me to knowledge of the Father and the Son. Teach me to understand your ways, and to relish your fellowship every day of my life. Amen.
