Loving Your Children: Devotion

DAILY VITAMIN
- Loving Your Children: Devotion
"An old man's grandchildren are his crowning glory. A child's glory is his father." (Proverbs 17:6 TLB)
Children are meant to look up to their parents, and they do this because parents are the next thing to God for them. And this covers all creatures. Take a look at other animals, and you'd realize that everything the little ones know and become, the parent has a direct hand in it.
And how do they do it? By being devoted to their offspring as they grow. If you are going to get to know your child better, in order to help him or her become better, then you are going to have to stick to the perfect bonding measures. Of which, devotion is superior. And here's how you can show devotion:
(1) Giving them your Time: You need to prioritize some alone time with your children or grandchildren as the case may be. Because as long as you can keep them as a very important part of your schedule, you will always be a part of theirs. It doesn't matter how old they are. Spend quality time with them talking about what they want to and what they ought to. It is the only way most kids can truly understand that you love and value them more than anything else.
(2) Show it with Kind Gestures: Get them a gift from time to time if you can; send them a text or an email, or simply just facetime them to tell them how special they are to you. In a huge matter like this, these small things matter a lot. A lot of children and adults alike go through tough times, and sometimes some sort of acceptance helps steady the ship. They may lack a good education, a good house, a good job, a good network of acquaintances, but never let them even start to believe that they also lack your love. Make it plain to them even if that's all you've got to give. Let them know. I have been a kid before, and you have, and we both know that there's no happier kid than one who knows that their parents will always love them unconditionally. And that's what God wants too.

Prayer:
Father, I ask for your help to be a good parent to my children. I ask for the patience and fortitude to help them when they need me the most, even though people assume they haven't earned it yet. I ask for the grace to show them the path of godliness through love just as you've done with me; that they may also be able to continue the legacy of walking in the way that pleases you through the Lord Jesus. Amen
