God Will Test You

DAILY VITAMIN
- God Will Test You
"I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins [test the emotions], even to give [repay] every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings." (Jeremiah 17:10)

Life down here is somewhat like an experiment; and through it God brings out men of superior quality - men who can withstand whatever circumstances come their way. Men who will stay strong as eagles having chosen to trust completely in Him with their whole heart.

Isaiah 26:3 says that God will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are perfect stayed towards Him. And how does He know this in real time? Well, other than His being omniscient, He tests us. Solomon said that if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small (Proverbs 24:10). For some people adversity could be gruesome trouble, while for some others it could be too much comfort. The latter was Asa's case.

For 35 years, as long as Asa's heart was reliant on God, He preserved and protected him. Even when the numbers weren't in his favour, God still kept him safe according to His Word. Then in the 36th year, a new threat arose, and rather than do the usual thing of trusting God, Asa deserted his trust in God, and ran to a man for the same help God constantly gave him; using the treasures of God to bribe him.

Though he got what he sought, yet he had made an irrecoverable mistake. God reminded him that peace only stays long enough in the life of he whose heart is perfect towards Him; and three years later Asa became terribly sick. Despite his illness, he didn't still rely on God for his recovery, but again sought after men. Almost like he had forgotten that except God helps someone no man can help him. And two years into that he died.

Can you imagine that? All the glories of three decades consumed in less than half a decade. God tested Asa in his time of comfort and he failed. Little wonder why David said that even in his prosperity he would never be moved (Psalm 30:6). And it all reveals that how you act today towards God is just as important to Him as how you acted many years ago when you were very ardent about His ways. He wants your passion and love for Him to remain on the high always.

Thus, look at your life now, have you at any point dropped God for some brilliantly orchestrated idea you think can save you? Or are you presently? Just like Asa, have you taken the item of devotion meant for God and given it to some other devices? Well, if yes, then now is the time to change. You can't know what you know now and still keep acting have you've been acting. Truth is meant to transform you; and the truth for your today is that God will test you in both good and bad times, and will give you the reward of what you do.

Prayer:
Lord, I know every day you test my heart to know the extent of my devotion to you. I know the circumstances around me and my reaction to them show you the very nature I have imbibed. But Jesus my desire is to please you every day;and to walk in your path faithfully. And so I ask for the grace to continually stay in trust towards you, following judiciously as you lead, knowing that everything I need  comes from you and will continually be from you. Amen
