Walking After The Spirit

DAILY VITAMIN
- Walking After The Spirit
"Wherever their/[the] Spirit went they went, going straight forward without turning" (Ezekiel 1:12 TLB)
Nothing gets you closer to the reality God always had planned out for you than letting yourself be guided by Him. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit is a teacher that shows us the right way to go in order to be profitable before the Lord and towards men (see Isaiah 30:20-21). And Jesus said He would guide us into all truth. But it's one thing to be guided and another to follow.
Galatians 5 cautions us not to ever be satisfied with just living in the Spirit, but to go further and walk in Him to experience a truly victorious life (v.25). Living in the Spirit is what we do naturally now that we are born again. We are born of God by the Spirit; and so our life force have moved from our blood to the Spirit. However, to walk in the Spirit is to lead our lives by His direction. And this is the only way we can actually live to truly please God.
Romans 8:5 says that "those who let themselves be controlled by their lower natures live only to please themselves, but those who follow after the Holy Spirit find themselves doing those things that please God" (TLB). The Spirit will never lead us into any path that is derogatory to God. He is not an author of confusion, and when we whole-heartedly follow Him we can never be left confused before God. Our theme scripture depicts the scenery better. It says that no matter what may happen, the creatures only moved as the Spirit led them. They didn't let circumstances affect the flow and neither must we.
Consider the story of Elisha. At four different cities, people tried to discourage him from following after Elijah, but he wouldn't give in. He stayed persistent in his attitude not to appeal to their many great reasons, but to follow as he felt led by God, and his story changed forever that day. How much more when we stay walking after the Spirit? Remember, as many as are led by the Spirit are the sons of God (Romans 8:14). What that means is that while we may all have been redeemed, only those who follow after Him truly manifest the reality of their sonship in their everyday lives.
God can reach men anywhere. The scripture says He broke through even to a people in the land of death (Matthew 4:16); nevertheless for a man who follows after Him, he shall never have to be in the place of death, because following after the Holy Spirit leads to life and peace (Romans 8:6). When we follow after Him, we don't ever have to be worried about making the wrong decision, because He's never wrong; and wherever He leads us is always where we can find all God has reserved for us.
Hence, have you been the boss of you all these while? That may sound good and liberating, but it still leaves you liable to errors, and vulnerable to afflictions. However, if you'd choose this day to listen and promptly obey God's direction, to hand over the helm of your life over to Him, I can assure you that you will always be one step ahead of every challenge set against you.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I receive your leading and direction. I ask that as the Holy Spirit guides me in my daily life, You grant me the grace and capacity to fully follow. Help me to obey you every day of my life, even now and forever to the glory of Your Name, in Jesus Name. Amen
