The Power Of Humility

DAILY VITAMIN
- The Power Of Humility
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." (1 Peter 5:6)
'Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift you up'. That to me sounds like the easiest way to a successful life, but history has shown that it is the most difficult for men to comply with. The unburned ego of many men keeps them in a constant and ceaseless flux of arrogance and conceit towards other men and God Himself. And we know God never associates Himself with the proud; and wherever God doesn't abide, the enemy will always have a field day.
This constant derogatory nature of mankind is what gives the humble man the degree of respect God has for him (Psalm 138:6). It's so marvelous that He says that even when every other person fails in life, the humble man shall not (Job 22:29). However, a greater mystery is that it works perfectly the same for all men regardless of their faith.
1 Kings 21 tells us about how Ahab had just committed one of the worst crimes in human history, and as such was condemned to die by God, but as soon as he humbled himself before Him- showing how much he regretted having wronged Him, the scriptures say that God reverted the decree against him for that moment (v.28-29). The same thing happened with David when he had killed Uriah; as soon as he humbled himself before God in repentance, God reinstated him as His chosen. In Ahab, we see a heathen, and in David we see a God-fearing king, but one thing made them alike before God- their momentary deep humility.
Proverbs 3:34 says that God gives grace to the humble but highly resists the proud. And we saw that in both stories. Both kings enjoyed God's grace as long as they stayed humble before Him. You see, we resist the devil's schemes and enterprises best when we submit ourselves to God (James 4:7). In fact, every sin we indulge in is because of an absence of humility before God. Consider the Israelites for instance as they proceeded out of Egypt and abode in the wilderness. If we are humble towards Him, His will will become our interest. And when we walk in humility, when we truly do that, we'd be submitting ourselves to Him completely to do only what He desires. But there can be no true humility without submission. And there can be no true submission until the pride of self is vanquished.
The Syrophoenician woman understood this, such that even when Jesus figuratively referred to her as a dog, she didn't care as long as she got His attention. Self had no say anymore in the matter; meeting Christ was all that mattered. You see, God's loving-kindness is eternal, and in being humble as she did we subject ourselves to its expression. First, it leads us to seek Him more intimately regardless of the resistance, and then to turn away from the wrong path,  so as to be restored in glory (see 2 Chro 7:14).
If we are really humble enough to seek God and pursue His purpose every time, He is capable enough to truly materialize our desired restoration (Lamentations 3:25). We must learn to be like Jesus. He showed us first-hand what humility can do in and for a man. The scripture says He humbled Himself before God and now is exalted above everything that be (Philippians 2:5-10). Don't be left out. Choose to walk in this same path He walked, so as to end up in the same place of glory He did. And may God help you indeed.

Prayer:
Dear God, without you I am nothing. There's nothing to be boastful of when I'm around you, because all I have belongs to you. Lord I ask that you help me to continually submit myself to your will in all ramifications. Help me to stay humble before you, because I know that is the way to your place of glory. So help me God, in Jesus Name. Amen
