Honour One Another

DAILY VITAMIN
- Honour One Another
"Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother--this is the first commandment with a promise...Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord...Servants (slaves), be obedient to those who are your physical masters, having respect for them and eager concern to please them, in singleness of motive and with all your heart, as [service] to Christ [Himself]--...You masters, act on the same [principle] toward them and give up threatening and using violent and abusive words, knowing that He Who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no respect of persons (no partiality) with Him." (Ephesians 6:2-9 AMP)

Most times, when we talk about showing respect, it is always a one-sided situation, but the Bible never teaches that. As much as age and position are societal factors for respect, it is also not an excuse not to give it. As believers, we are urged by the life of the Lord Jesus to express respect regardless of where we find ourselves or to whom we are in contact with. And this becomes easy when we see one another as equals in the eyes of God.
For instance, the Messiah-Jesus-who was held in high esteem by His disciples still "stooped low" to wash their feet. In ancient Israel, that act was a sign of servanthood; it was the supposed duty of slaves. So we see Jesus the King acting as a servant as the need arises; the Lion becoming a lamb for the fulfillment of the Father's will.
In other words, every one deserves to be respected. Even God proved that. Their achievement may not have earned it, neither might they have deserved it by their actions, but our identity as children of God should cause us to show it at all times. We must love out loud; loudly enough to respect people's rights in spite of their opinions. As children, we have to respect our parents, as it is the Lord's command with a promise. As parents also, we must respect our children in ways we can so as not to provoke them unto rebellion.
Nobody is too young to be respected, and nobody is too old to show respect. Remember, Jesus showed us this, in that He said "The Son honours the Father, and the Father honours the Son", and also that even in being God, He was subject unto men. Again, no one is too young to be respected, or too old not to show respect. Hence, regardless of any difference in class, character and status, give yourself wholly to honour one another.
