Becoming A True Friend

DAILY VITAMIN
- Becoming A True Friend
"There are friends who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24 RSV)
Have you ever had a friend who would give himself for you? Who would place your needs above his debts? Who would choose to die just so that you live? I don't know about you, but I believe I have such a friend.
The beauty about such people is that they do not only do good deeds towards us, but also teach us the very principle of life through their deeds......which is to have a much more deeper cause in life other than gain, violence, and unneeded societal feuds, but rather to leave an indelible imprint on everyone we meet; an impact men would carry even unto eternity.
Friends are in fact the best gifts, and oftentimes the worst in life; but I tell you if you have a good friend, you have something greater than gold.
The Children of Israel were expecting a King who would grant them parole from the hands of the Romans, a Messiah who would rule over them with a rod of power in bright apparel (John 7:27), but God sent them a friend instead in Jesus who would not only grant them liberty, dominion, but also save them from the hell that awaited them through His blood (John 6:33-40).
The Songwriter said it well when he said "What a friend we have in Jesus". He didn't call nor relate with us as subjects, but as friends (John 15:15).
But due to their non-appreciation of friendship they rejected Him. But thank God that we now have Jesus as our friend and Master; and with His wonder working grace upon our lives, we see the essence of a true friendship.....which is, IMPARTATION.
But note, God did not just create you to have a friend who is priceless, No! He also expects you to be a friend who is priceless. So in your integrity and in reverence for God, be that friend that people around you have been waiting for.
Be the person who can live as Jesus is to us towards others. You see, the greatest gift any man can receive on his day of birth, and his entire lifetime,  is the opportunity to have good people around him that would lead him to success, greatness and back into God's arms. And that's the kind of person God says you ought to be.
Therefore, cherish the true essence of Friendship- which is to be a light to rescue people in their dark moments, live in the actuality of Friendship- which is to become in deed the person those around and close to you need. In short, become the best kind of friend you can be- the best God says you ought to be...... And this is how we do it: emulating Christ!
