Giving Is Getting
DAILY VITAMIN
- Giving Is Getting
"Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you."
(Luke 6:38 AMP)
By our everyday experiences, we will come to realize that unbeknownst to us or otherwise, when we give, we actually take. Nothing brings more upon and towards a man than when he stretches out to give. Scripture says that there is one who scatters and yet increases (see Proverbs 11:24). This concerns more than just material wealth; in all the world there is, whatever and however you give, you get.
From our personal lives, we can tell that the more we give our time to something....any task or field of study, the more we gain expertise in it. Apart from that we can also see that the less attention we give, oftentimes the less attention we get. Life in God’s wisdom gives to each man a harvest of what he's sown.
The Prophet Isaiah wrote on those holy scrolls these solemn words...'the liberal devises liberal things, and by liberal things shall he stand' (31:8). It's amazing, you see - the proportionality of giving and getting. It says the liberal who gives liberally shall also stand by his liberal things. Note, giving surpasses materialism; In fact I believe the greatest gift sometimes is just a word to someone, and the good part about this is that when we do this, we feel better seeing the person get better.
At this moment, I would like to confer this statement's authenticity using Elisha as a case study. Elisha gave up his warm bed, his family time-outs, his friends perhaps, and went along with Elijah. To many of us, it was somewhat unprofitable from the cover, but you'd realize in time that the most beautiful pages are mostly subtly hidden in the most hideous of covers. And how did this lifestyle of his pan out for him? It did finally pay-off. He got a double of God's anointing. He was reverenced by an entire nation. All of these happened because indirectly whether we believe it or not, giving is getting.
When you give your time to your friends, you get more loyalty; when you give your time to your family, you get more liberality and openness in love. When you give your time to study, you get a step ahead than where you previously were; when you give a seed to the earth, you get a tree full of fruits. When you give a wage to the labourers, you get the job done; when you give your time to God, you get His attention all the way. When you give a word to someone in need of encouragement, you get one extra happy face.
Hence, start giving....and keep giving, for that's the straightest way to getting!
