Engaging The Power Of Stillness

DAILY VITAMIN
After the invasion of Jerusalem, all the men saw it as a good idea to run to Egypt for solace, but God had other plans for them. When they would inquire of the Lord concerning the situation, God would speak to Jeremiah, instructing them to stay put that He would show them His mercies (Jer 42:10-12).
That's exactly what Jesus illustrated when He said ''Let not your heart be troubled'' (John 14:1). In the midst of chaos, God was teaching them to have peace, not because on the natural, there was any peace, but because His presence with them is peace enough. He says "Be of good cheer even though you would have trials in this world, because I am with you and have overcome the world". That was Jesus' exact words. He meant it then, and He still means it now.
"Now, how does this whole story of the Israelis relate to me?", you may ask.
For many of us, like Judah, whenever it seems like our ship just hit the iceberg, we run to Egypt: we switch phase; from trust in God as we once had to trust in tranquilizers, narcotics, worry and for some even suicide. But guess what, in the same way Egypt couldn't solve their problems then, these vices won't solve yours; and as a result, God teaches us to embrace the ever lasting resolution, which is Peace even in the storm.
When the storm hit the ship of the disciples, and every negative thought flashed through their minds in immense proportions, Jesus said 'Be still', and the storm passed. Your ability to find stillness in the knowledge that God is with you and for you causes fiery storms to pass away. Storms aren't always meant to kill you, but to ignite fear within you which then causes you to take actions that might end up killing you. But when you're still, fear dies within. But you can take advantage of it, because every adversity is designed to breed capacity in us- if we are interested.
Notice this, when the storm hit the disciples, they tried every possible means to keep the ship steady, but it all failed until they got still enough to call out to Jesus. Hence, even in the midst of trouble, your adrenaline surge may force you to yield to fear, but you must come to realize that the power to end the storm lies within- just be still and let Him act on your behalf to calm the storm. And that demands absolute faith and trust Him and an ever willingness to heed His every instructions; simply put, to be still and see His great salvation towards you. But know this, stillness is not in doing nothing; as I said, it's trusting Him endlessly even as you act as He leads.
