Gratitude Must Be Your New Attitude

DAILY VITAMIN
I heard the story about a young boy whom when he got a horse at 14, everybody mused about how lucky he was; they asked for his master's opinion, and he said 'watch and see'. Two years later, he fell off that horse and damaged his legs, and the same people grumbled about how he would have been okay if he never had gotten the horse in the first place; still his master's only response was 'watch and see'. A year after, a cold war broke out and the country had to enlist young lads into its infantry, but because this kid had damaged limbs, they chose to let him go, and once again the people sighed "Thank goodness he has bad legs, if not he could have been killed", yet his master said 'watch and see'. Months into the war, the opposition grew stronger, overpowering their stronghold, but whilst the few that could escape fled for their lives, the young lad couldn't. All he could afford to do was wait for himself to die, and again the same people murmured about how things could have been better for him if only he had his legs working. A nerve-pricking example of a twist in opinions at different occasions of life.
This applies to each and everyone of us who always love to find a counter-reason to justify how things could have been better if we weren't who we presently are. One of the most popular statements we all say, including myself, is that "if only we were born in another country, things would have been better"; but guess what? The odds that things would be better is exactly the same as that things would have been worse: we could have probably even be dead by now. Here's what i'm trying to say: There is always a reason to be thankful in all circumstances. Don't try to torment your parents for raising you in your present environment because things are bad at the moment, because if things were good you wouldn't. Don't try to hate God for creating you because you think you're poor now, because if you were rich, you wouldn't. Life is like a ball that keeps rolling down the plane of realities, and the direction it takes depends on how we counter every coming circumstance. But in reality, to keep this ball rolling at the right bearing and angles for you, as well as myself, we must learn to appreciate God in all situations regardless of how prolific or terrifying it may seem. Not making good out of bad when it falls to our favour, and making bad out of good when it doesn't, but simply just being grateful to Him in the same way when we break a leg as when we got the horse. It is not a simple act....at least for me, yet it is one i know works for every single individual who tries it. It gives us the peace we need, and freedom from the torment of what would have been but isn't. Being at peace in God gives us enough reason to want to live even when the events that play out suck out every bit of life out of us- and living in gratitude and contentment to God gives us such peace. Hence, when you don't get the job you applied for, don't curse God, or your parents, nor yourself for having studied in a middle-status institution like you might have done, rather stay believing and prayerful, as well as being thankful to Him for giving you an opportunity to get the next job on the line that has greater benefits than the one you just applied for. My Bible says that when a man tries to please God, He causes everything around him, even unpleasant situations, to be at peace with him (Pro 16:7), and yes it pleases Him when we show gratitude in all circumstances because it's His will for us that we do (1 Thes 5:18). If this is any consolation, know that God is well aware of your predicament, and is readily willing to help you, but you just have to believe Him that He wills to help you, and in response remain hopeful in thanksgiving to Him. Thus, regardless of how frightening our present is to us, let's not stop praising Him in advance for what He has cooked up for our tomorrows, for truly we cannot comprehend how great of a plan He has in store for those who trust Him.....even you my friend (Rom 8:18).
