How To Keep Your Joy

- How To Keep Your Joy
Joy, just like any other emotion, is a choice we must trigger consciously for it to have its fullest effect; Such that we can't just sit and expect to feel joyous at a certain time of the day. It is a virtue that requires conscious engagement to materialize. It is a choice for all, but a duty to those who serve God. By God's own verdict, every single one who lives in Him must possess this unique quality; and why is that? This is because the strength of everyone who dwells in Him is found in joy (Neh 8:10). Having this knowledge, the enemy lives with one target in mind- which is to steal our joy. The bad health, the unsuccessful mortgage, the rejected offer and the simple delays are only meant to kill every bit of joy in us. This he does because he knows that a joyless believer has nothing in common with God, and if nothing similar with God, then can never be able to possess all God naturally commands. So the key to survive this malignancy would be to keep that joy of yours at all cost. Jesus, in His final admonition on how to live conquering every adversity every day, says "I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world (John 16:33 CEV). In simple terms, He was saying that though the bad breaks would come heavily, yet there's an assurance of us coming out unstrained, if and if only we stay cheerful- full of positive emotions, of which joy is number one. He says 'with the knowledge that I have conquered every challenge on your behalf, live enthusiastically with the notion that you are coming through- retaining your joy as though the challenge was non-existent. Yes, you might argue that it isn't that easy; Jesus knew that too, that's why He sent the Holy Spirit who bears joy as a fruit, so that by asking Him to fill us up, every depleted joy may be full (John 16:24). By engaging the Holy Spirit's help and simply emotionally ignoring the circumstantial harshness (which most times seem difficult) keeps us as God intends us to stay. Doris DeBoe's own way of dealing with this was the attitude "I've got cancer, but cancer ain't got me". We can do the same or even better. As long as it concerns keeping your joy maximized, doing all you can to achieve that is the greatest enterprise you could ever engage in. For in joy we clearly show we've overcome every adversity. "They were terribly insulted and horribly mistreated; now they will be greatly blessed and JOYFUL forever" (Isa 60:7 CEV).
