Becoming An Effective Leader

DAILY VITAMIN
- Becoming An Effective Leader
Who is a leader to you? Is he someone who has a title on the lintel of his office door? Or someone who is recognized publicly as one in charge? Well, if that's what you thought prior to now, then you've been wrong for so long. You see, it's one thing to rule and another to lead. While the first is Positional, the other is based on the disposition displayed. While the first is centered on a title, the other is assessed by effectiveness.
The right to lead must be earned. People should want to follow you for who you are, and not your title. You see, leadership is dynamic and impact oriented. It attracts those it affects. As long as you keep on breeding the leader in individuals, you'd be bound to lead. Leaders don't struggle for leadership positions, rather they create so much influence that they are called upon to lead. They know that position means little if influence is lacking. This is because they know that people only follow those who add value to their lives. Now stay with me please: if you are presently a CEO or in any position at the top, do you believe your subordinates will still count your words worthy of compliance as soon as you step down. You see, if anyone obeys you when you were president, and won't now that you're not, then you were never their leader. If you use position as a leverage for others to obey you, then they'd only follow you because they have to. However, you can increase your influence power; and this starts with understanding people.
How can you control what you don't understand. How can you pattern in a certain direction what you can't fathom. How can you truly touch a group of people you have no sense of relationship with. So, to have a great impact on people, you must know them for what it's worth. You must know their earnest desire and how to help them fulfil it. This is where human management comes in: that is the ability to care about your subordinates beyond the work they do for you. And this my friend is the leader's route to earning dignity and respect. This is how you reach a level of influence. For instance, if the news has nothing that is relevant to you, you'd never turn it up. The reason why you keenly wait for the 7 o'clock news is because it has a tantamount level of relevance and effect on you. In the same way, people only listen to people who create a better dimension of the person within them. People always want to gain, and great leaders help people reach a level where they can gain- intellectually and tangibly. And that's the kind of leader you must become. That's the definition of an effective leader.
